How they did it
The following was sent to Californians for Parental Rights on December 23 from Doug Miller of Madonna del Sasso parish who has sent in over 1000 signatures from parishes in Salinas.
“We only have about eight active members with a few others that help out at special events. Three of our members are from other Salinas parishes.
“We gathered signatures at Madonna del Sasso Parish in Salinas on two consecutive weekends.
“One of our members borrowed some material and information from us and ran his own signature gathering event at Cristo Rey Church in Salinas and got about 270 signatures.
“One of our members contacted two other parishes in Salinas (Sacred Heart and St. Mary of the Nativity) and headed our group’s signature gathering efforts there. The pastors were willing but one of the priests was very reluctant to cooperate. Because of that the pulpit announce was not passed along so we had to contact people before each Mass to get it said during Mass.
“To help convince other Catholic pastors to allow signature gathering I would show them the “California Bishops Issue Statement on Referendum and Initiatives Now Circulating in California” of November 20, 2015 from the California Catholic Conference, which encourages the signature gathering efforts of this initiative.
“We might gather signatures at Our Lady of Refuge in Castroville.”
